Wemby Gets Rather Odd But On-Point Praise from Jaylen Brown, Leads Spurs to Another Win

Victor Wembanyama fired 29 points to go along with 8 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 145-120 shellacking of the Houston Rockets.

Stephon Castle added 22 points and 5 dimes, De’Aaron Fox put up 20 points and 10 assists, and Keldon Johnson added 20 off the bench on four triples as the Spurs won for the 15th time in their last 16 games.

Kevin Durant and Amen Thompson scored 23 apiece for the Rockets, who have gone 6-4 in their last 10 games and are now just half a game ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers for the fourth seed in the West.

Wemby Proves Jaylen Brown’s Point

Over the weekend, Wemby got some high praise from fellow MVP candidate Jaylen Brown, who described himself as “the best human player” today. But before Victor Wembanyama fans get mad, it appears the Boston Celtics forward has put the big man in a different, but certainly rarefied, territory.

“That boy Wemby is a problem, a big problem,” Brown said on his FCHWPO livestream on Twitch over the weekend. “When I say I’m the best two-way player in the league, it’s not counting Wemby… He’s not even human. I’m the best human player.”

Indeed, Wemby has earned the moniker “Alien” for good reason. He’s playing superbly and even putting up historic shot-blocking numbers while doing a lot of everything for San Antonio. And the Rockets found that out on Monday, setting the tone with a 26-foot three-pointer followed by a lefty finger roll that got the Spurs off to a hot start—never to look back again.

Incidentally, Wemby and the Spurs will next face Brown and the Celtics on Thursday in what should be a marquee matchup. The Rockets, meanwhile, will take on the Toronto Raptors on the same day.
