Ben Simmons is among the top free agents still without a team, which now begs the question: Will he ever crack an NBA roster ever again?
According to a report published by NBA insider Marc Stein, the former Philadelphia 76er and Brooklyn Net was offered a minimum contract by the New York Knicks that he ultimately passed up on.
Injuries, Confidence Issues, and a Declining Role in the NBA
Stein also noted that the 7-year vet was hopeful he would have enough interest on the open market to get at least an above-minimum contract.
However, it is growing unlikely that the Aussie standout gets his wish fulfilled.
For starters, he has been extremely limited due to his long list of injuries over the past six seasons, led by his many back issues, most notably the nerve impingement in his lower back in the 2023-24 season, which has been troubling him since about the 2019-20 season, coincidentally his third season in the league.
This problem, unfortunately, led to him struggling to even suit up. But when he played, though, it was a far cry from the burgeoning superstar that many NBA fans believed he was going to be with Philly.
Add in the fact that he appears to have confidence issues on the court, plus the lack of a reliable jump shot, Simmons’ career looks like it’s completely dead in the water.
With more than 200+ million dollars in career earnings, there’s no shame for Simmons to just step away from the limelight and enjoy life. After all, he’s 29, he still has his life ahead of him, and we wish him the best.
