The PVL Reinforced Conference concluded Phase 1 of the preliminary round on Thursday with a double-header at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan. The Creamline Cool Smashers took on the Nxled Chameleons in the first match, followed by Cignal going up against the Akari Chargers.
Creamline Bucks First-Set Loss, Pushes Past Nxled
The Creamline Cool Smashers bucked a first-set loss on Thursday and powered past the Nxled Chameleons, 20-25, 25-13, 25-16, 25-18, to finish off their Phase 1 campaign with a victory.
Coco Schwan led Creamline with 14 points to go along with 14 excellent digs and 15 receptions, while Michele Gumabao added 13 markers anchored on 2 blocks and 2 aces to cop Best Player of the Game honors. Pangs Panaga and Tots Carlos chipped in 12 and 11, respectively.
Paola Martinez top-scored in the match with 18, but Chia Fermentilla was the only other Nxled player to finish in double digits with 14.

Cignal Turns Off Akari to Level Record
Slovak import Katrin Trebichavska led the Cignal Super Spikers to a crucial 25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 25-20 triumph over the Akari Chargers to hike their record to 3-3 and enter Phase 2 of the preliminary round with momentum.
While Trebichavska led the way, she got plenty of support from the locals this time around, with Erika Santos firing 19 big points and Roselyn Doria-Aquino adding 12. Ishie Lalongisip bounced back from a two-point outing against the Capital1 Solar Spikers to score 11 points, including timely hits in the third and fourth sets.
American reinforcement Annie Mitchem top-scored for Akari with 22 markers, followed by Fifi Sharma’s 13.
