Thursday’s nine-game NBA slate saw the Indiana Pacers finally notch a win, the Toronto Raptors continue their surge up the standings, and the New York Knicks escaping the upset ax against a depleted Dallas Mavericks squad.
Pacers Overwhelm Hornets, Notch Second Win of the Season
Bennedict Mathurin sparked the Indiana Pacers (2-13) to a 127-118 victory over the Charlotte Hornets (4-11) at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Mathurin finished with 24 points and 12 rebounds for the Pacers, who rode a strong first half to build a 70-54 cushion. Pascal Siakam added 22 points and 7 assists, Andrew Nembhard chipped in 16, and Jay Huff provided a spark off the bench with 20 on four triples.
Rookie Kon Knueppel paced the Hornets with 28 points on five treys, while Miles Bridges had 25 points and 5 rebounds.
Raptors Overcome Sixers Behind Balanced Attack
Brandon Ingram and RJ Barrett spearheaded a balanced attack that powered the Toronto Raptors (10-5) to a 121-112 triumph over the Philadelphia 76ers (8-6) at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Ingram and Barrett had 22 apiece and led a 44-26 third quarter for the Raptors to put the game out of reach. Jakob Poeltl added 19 points and 8 rebounds, Immanuel Quickley chipped in 18 points and 6 dimes, and Scottie Barnes put up 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists. Ja’Kobe Walter came off the Toronto bench to add 11.
Tyrese Maxey paced the Sixers with 24 points and 9 assists, while V.J. Edgecombe added 21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. Quentin Grimes had 21 off the bench.
Knicks Survive Depleted Mavs
Jalen Brunson returned and Landry Shamet made big plays in the endgame to help the New York Knicks (9-5) survive the Dallas Mavericks (4-12) at American Airlines Center.
Brunson fired a game-high 28 points in his return from a two-game absence, while Shamet had 16 and hit two big triples in the final two minutes. He also drew an offensive foul on Brandon Williams, whose shot would’ve tied the game if not for Shamet’s defensive play. Karl-Anthony Towns added 18 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 assists, while Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart had 16 apiece—and the Knicks needed all of it to overcome the Mavs’ inspired effort.
Naji Marshall and D’Angelo Russell came off the Dallas bench to score 23 each, while Max Christie had 15. The Mavs played without No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg, who was out with an illness, as well as injured stars Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis.
