Quezon City – The South Cotabato Warriors are just a win away from reaching the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) South division finals after ousting top 2 team Batangas City Tanduay Rum Masters, 87-76, on Monday, October 28.

Warriors’ forward Christian Fajarito fired up with 20 points, 2 assists, and 7 rebounds to stun the Rum Masters. Jammer Jamito also helped with an almost double-double (9 points and 11 rebounds).

All-star Levi Fernandez finished with 16 points and 6 rebounds for Batangas, however, South Cotabato’s dominance in the boards and efficiency in the charity stripes proved to be too much for the higher-seeded Rum Masters.

South Cotabato’s Path to a Cinderella Story

After stunning Biñan in the quarterfinals, South Cotabato is once again pushing to make a historic run in the playoffs. If they manage to win game 2 against Batangas City, this will be the first time that they will be reaching the South division finals. Moreover, it’s more impressive that they’re doing all of these as a 6th seed.

The Rum Masters will host the Warriors for the do-or-die game 2 on November 4 at the Batangas City Coliseum.

The Scores:

  • South Cotabato Warriors vs. Batangas City Tanduay Rum Masters (87-76)
  • Quezon Huskers vs. Parañaque Patriots
