San Miguel Beermen main man June Mar Fajardo is always hungry for more—more wins, more championships, more legendary moments.
It’s what drives him even after accomplishing pretty much everything a professional basketball player could ever dream of. But he’s not stopping now. He won’t be stopping anytime soon, actually, because in his mind, he hasn’t won anything at all.
“Hindi ko iniisip ‘yun,” Fajardo said in the PBA Finals press conference held on Monday when asked about all the accolades he has won so far. “Sa isip ko laging wala ‘kong napanalunang championship, wala ‘kong napanalunang award, kaya ‘yun ‘yung nagda-drive sa akin…”
June Mar Fajardo, of course, is an 11-time PBA champion, 12-time Best Player of the Conference, 9-time MVP, 4-time PBA Finals MVP, and 10-time Mythical First Team member. He’s got many more accomplishments, and yet he is driven to go for more because of his nothing-won mindset.
June Mar Fajardo Gives Update on Bum Shoulder
Fajardo will be trying to lead the Beermen to another title with a bum shoulder, which he first hurt in San Miguel’s highly physical semis showdown with Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. But heading into San Miguel’s PBA Philippine Cup Finals rematch with the TNT Tropang 5G, it appears there’s no need to worry about that injury—not according to The Kraken’s latest injury update.
“Okay naman, okay naman. Getting better naman,” Fajardo said when asked about his injured shoulder. “Kailangan maganda sa Finals kasi alam naman namin na magiging mahirap ‘to na Finals para sa ‘min…”
Indeed, Fajardo will have to be close to 100% in the PBA Finals as he will be facing a cadre of Tropang 5G big men—Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, Kelly Williams, Poy Erram, and Henry Galinato Jr.—who will all try to limit The Kraken’s usually enormous impact on the games.
But, 100% or not, a hungry-for-more June Mar Fajardo will surely be a handful.
The PBA Philippine Cup Finals will start on Wednesday with Game 1 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
