It appears the WTA 125 Philippine Women’s Open is making quite the impression on the players—especially on the trio of Sakura Hosogi, Viktoria Morvayova, and Miho Kuramochi. The three made the Main Draw after surviving the qualifers.
Hosogi Bests Home Town Bet
Japan’s Sakura Hosogi made it to the main draw by sweeping Stefi Aludo, 6-1, 6-2, on Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
Afterward, the 25-year-old Japanese player admitted she was nervous playing in front of a huge Philippine crowd, though that didn’t prevent her from dominating the young Filipina ace.
“The centre court is big. I went to enjoy much yeah. So many people, so many good fans, so I focused and keep on going,” she said post-match.
Morvayova Aces Stressful Test
Slovakia’s Viktoria Morvayova, meanwhile, survived stress and the hard-fighting Nicole Fossa Huergo, 7-5, 6-3, to advance to only her second-ever WTA Main Draw.
“Yeah, the first one was in Hong Kong and I didn’t even knew that I’d be in the draw, so I managed to qualify in the main round, so I was really happy,” she said after the match. “And, of course, in this tournament, I was nervous because I didn’t play in a month, so it was stressful a little bit, but it’s really a nice tournament…”
Morvayova’s first time at the Main Draw was at the Hong Kong tennis Open last 2025. She played against Maya Joint but failed to advance.
It remains to be seen how far the 24-year-old Slovakian will advance, but she already knows for a fact that she’s facing better and tougher opponents here than in the ITF.
“I’m really happy that I won and it’s just a really good tournament. Comparing [it] to the lower ITF tournaments, its incomparable…,” she said. “I don’t know yet who I am playing… But every girl is really good here so I am happy I will have another match…”
Kuramochi Makes It to Main Draw
Japan’s Miho Kuramochi will join six other Japanese bets in the Main Draw. And aside from playing some high-level tennis, she’s also just enjoying the good weather and soaking it all in.
“It’s [my] first time here. I was looking forward to be here, and its a good tournament,” Kuramochi said. “The management, staff. I so feel good to play tennis, and the weather is so nice because in Japan its winter now, and its so cold. So, its better than to play in Japan now.”
Kuramochi and Hosogi, along with Himeno Sakatsume, Kyōka Okamura, Sara Saito, Mai Hontama, and Nao Hibino are the six Japanese aces vying to advance further in this historic WTA 125 Philippine Women’s Open.
