After conquering the UAAP with the NU Lady Bulldogs and sharpening her game overseas, Alyssa Solomon is ready to embrace her next challenge in the PVL.
Fresh off a stint with Osaka Marvelous in the 2025–26 Japan SV.League season, Solomon enters the 2026 PVL Draft carrying not just a championship pedigree but also valuable international experience from one of the world’s most disciplined volleyball environments.
The 24‑year‑old opposite spiker tallied 147 points in 30 matches while helping Osaka secure a runner‑up finish in Japan’s top professional league.
Alyssa Solomon Brings Talent, Overseas Lessons, and More
Now expected to be among the top selections in the upcoming draft, Solomon said the lessons she learned overseas are exactly what she hopes to bring into the PVL.
“Ibibigay ko lang talaga kung ano ‘yung meron na natutunan ko from Japan. All out lang talaga sa daily and sa game,” Solomon shared during Day 1 of the PVL Draft Combine at Gameville Ball Park in Mandaluyong.
“Ay, sobrang daming learnings. Kung paano talaga magtrabaho ‘yung mga Japanese, makikita mo kung paano nila ihagis ‘yung katawan nila sa floor, hindi talaga nila hinahayaan na bumagsak ‘yung bola.
“Dahil doon parang na‑inspire ako na kaya ko rin naman siguro ‘yun. More on hard work talaga ‘yung masaya ko na experience doon.”
Solomon’s combination of size, scoring ability, and championship experience has made her the consensus favorite to go No. 1 overall in the June 3 PVL Draft.
The Galeries Tower Highrisers currently hold the top overall pick after winning the draft lottery, followed by the Capital1 Solar Spikers, Choco Mucho Flying Titans, and ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles.
Ready for Whichever Team Picks Her
Despite the expectations surrounding her draft stock, Solomon said she remains focused on simply contributing wherever she lands.
“For me, parang wala pa rin talagang expectation sa anong mangyayari. So, siguro if ever na mapunta ako sa team, ibibigay ko lang talaga kung ano ‘yung natutunan ko sa Japan. And siguro matutulungan kami, and mag‑enjoy lang,” she said.
“Actually, mas masayang manalo kapag nasa ganoon kang posisyon, kasi alam mong pinaghihirapan ng team. So, ayun, excited ako na mangyari siguro ‘yun, if ever.”
Will Alyssa Solomon Stay?
For all intents and purposes, Alyssa Solomon will likely go No. 1 in the 2026 PVL Draft. That is, if she stays. With a few weeks to go before the draft, there are rumors that the former Lady Bulldog has standing offers to play overseas, leading many to speculate that she might withdraw and instead pursue international opportunities.
As of this writing, the ex-NU standout is still part of the draft pool, having even taken part in the combine. Even so, she still has a few days to weigh her options, as applicants to the 2026 PVL Draft have until June 1 to withdraw.
But, as of now, Alyssa Solomon looks PVL-bound. And whoever gets her is sure to have a game-changer.
