The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) has broken its silence following the International Volleyball Federation’s (FIVB) decision to suspend the organization, saying its immediate focus remains on protecting Filipino athletes and ensuring the continuity of Philippine volleyball.
In a statement released days after the FIVB announced its suspension of the federation, the PNVF said it is currently reviewing the decision and consulting with advisers and stakeholders to better understand its implications.
“The Federation acknowledges receipt of the FIVB communication dated 29 May 2026 and is carefully reviewing its implications with the appropriate advisers and stakeholders,” part of the statement read.
Governance Concerns and Suspension
The statement comes amid a turbulent period for Philippine volleyball, following the FIVB’s suspension of the PNVF over what it described as serious governance concerns and alleged violations of its Code of Ethics, which are currently under investigation by an independent Ethics Panel.
The suspension prompted the FIVB to appoint an Ad Hoc Committee to temporarily oversee volleyball affairs in the country while a pathway to reinstatement is established.

Athlete Welfare as Priority
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the federation’s status, the volleyball federation emphasized that athlete welfare and national team participation remain at the forefront of its concerns.
“PNVF’s immediate priority is to serve the Filipino athlete, preserve the country’s participation in international volleyball, and ensure continuity for the sport,” the federation said.
The issue has gained further significance with the Philippines scheduled to host major international volleyball events in the coming months, including the AVC Women’s Volleyball Cup and a Volleyball Nations League stop in June.
Commitment to Cooperation
The federation also signaled its willingness to work with both local and international governing bodies as the situation develops.
“The Federation respects the important roles of FIVB, PSC, POC, and all relevant institutions in Philippine and international sport, and is prepared to engage constructively through the proper channels,” the statement read.
The suspension has already triggered responses from other key sports stakeholders.
The Philippine Sports Commission recently froze funding support for the federation, while Philippine Olympic Committee president Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino said the POC is expected to honor the FIVB’s decision and formally suspend the PNVF during its upcoming General Assembly.
Next Steps for PNVF
For now, the PNVF said it is focused on understanding the issues raised by the FIVB and determining the next steps.
“Given the seriousness of the matter, PNVF will seek a full understanding of the issues raised, the process moving forward, and the operational implications for Philippine volleyball,” the federation said.
While no timetable has been provided for the resolution of the case, the PNVF assured stakeholders that further information will be released as soon as it becomes available.
“PNVF will provide further updates once appropriate.”
