Alex Eala enjoyed a remarkable Wimbledon campaign, reaching the fourth round of the tournament and becoming the first Filipina in the Open Eara to achieve such a feat in Grand Slam history.
As the world No. 28 wraps up her grass-court season with a 12-4 record, the pride of the Philippines now shifts her focus to the hard-court swing.
WTA 500 Mubadala Open — July 27 to August 2
Perhaps the first thing on Eala’s bucket list after competing in the second-to-last Grand Slam tournament of the year is to take a well-deserved break. That’s exactly what she’ll get in the next few days.
The 21-year-old will have 20 days of rest before returning to action in the singles main draw of the WTA 500 Mubadala Open in Washington, D.C., USA.
Joining Eala in the tournament is defending champion Leylah Fernandez, whom she faced earlier this year. Other familiar names in the main draw include Iva Jovic, Janice Tjen, and Jasmine Paolini.
WTA 1000 National Bank Open — August 2 to 13
Reports indicate that Eala is expected to compete in the WTA 1000 National Bank Open in Toronto, Canada, which is scheduled to take place from August 2 to 13.
Although the official player list has yet to be released, the Rafa Nadal Academy graduate could improve on last year’s performance, when she exited in the first round after losing to Markéta Vondroušová.
WTA 1000 Cincinnati Open — August 13 to 23
Another tournament that the Quezon City native is expected to enter is the WTA 1000 Cincinnati Open in Cincinnati, USA, which will be held from August 13 to 23.
Last year, Eala was forced to withdraw from the tournament because of a shoulder injury.
US Open — August 30 to September 13
Eala has already secured a spot in the singles main draw of the final Grand Slam tournament of the year
In 2025, she made history as the first tennis player from the Philippines to win a Grand Slam singles main-draw match in the Open Era after defeating Clara Tauson in the opening round before bowing out in straight sets to Spain’s Cristina Bucșa.
That’s another packed schedule for the on-the-rise Filipina, who showed in her grass exploits that she is ready to climb up to elite status and maybe make more history along the way.
