Alas Pilipinas Women opened the second leg of the 2026 SEA Women’s V Cup with a straight-set loss to host Thailand, 19-25, 17-25, 19-25, on Friday at Chiang Mai Stadium in Thailand.
Alas Pilipinas struggled against a reinforced Thai squad that welcomed back veteran standouts Pornpun Guedpard, Pimpichaya Kokram, and Chatchu-On Moksri, as the defending champions remained in control throughout the match.
Thailand seized the early momentum in the opening set behind the playmaking of Guedpard, who orchestrated an offense that produced 18 attack points. The hosts closed the frame with a 6-2 run to turn a slim 19-17 advantage into a 25-19 victory.
The Thais carried that momentum into the second set, breaking open a close 5-4 contest with a dominant 12-3 run to build a commanding 17-7 lead. Alas Pilipinas was unable to recover as Thailand moved within a set.
Alas Pilipinas Show Fight But Not Enough
The Philippines showed more resistance in the third frame, keeping pace with the hosts through the early exchanges before Thailand pulled away midway through the set. Consecutive Philippine errors sparked a decisive 4-0 run that turned a one-point deficit into a 16-13 lead for the Thais, who maintained control the rest of the way to complete the sweep.
Niña Ytang led Alas Pilipinas with 8 points on 6 attacks and 2 blocks, while Alyssa Solomon finished with 6 markers.
Dawn Catindig anchored the Philippine defense with 18 excellent digs and 4 excellent receptions, while Eya Laure and Erika Santos chipped in 5 points apiece.
Thailand, fresh off winning the first leg of the tournament, was paced by Sasisaporn Janthawisut and Pimpichaya Kokram, who scored 10 points each.
Alas Pilipinas will look to bounce back on Saturday when it takes on Vietnam in search of its first victory in the second leg of the tournament.
