Here are the players who made the biggest impact on October 13 and the stats to prove it.
TOP PERFORMERS OF THE DAY:
Jordon Varnado MER PF 31 PTS | 7 REB | 7 AST | 61.9 FPS
This was another complete two-way performance from the Meralco import. Like in his debut, Varnado made an impact across the board while matching his previous scoring output. He was even more efficient this time, shooting 59% from two-point range without committing a single turnover. He also came through in the fourth quarter, scoring 12 points to help secure the win.
Oscar Lopez Jr. MGP PG 43 PTS | 10 REB | 3 STL | 56.0 FPS
Despite his team falling far behind, Lopez didn’t back down, finishing with his second consecutive 40-point performance. He particularly stood out in the fourth quarter, knocking down two four-pointers and scoring 20 points.
Kentrell Debarus Barkley BWB SF 29 PTS | 11 REB | 5 AST | 51.7 FPS
Coming off his lowest-scoring performance of the conference in a loss to Magnolia, Barkley returned to his dominant ways today. He was effective from all areas of the court, coming close to the 30-point mark once again. He was even more impressive on the boards, recording his seventh consecutive double-digit rebounding game.
Sedrick Barefield BWB SG 31 PTS | 5 REB | 2 STL | 46.0 FPS
Barefield led the way again for Blackwater, taking over in the clutch with 12 fourth-quarter points and finishing 10-for-12 from the line to set a new conference-best. This was also his fifth game with at least 20 points.
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson TNT PF 22 PTS | 6 REB | 5 AST | 42.7 FPS
Sidelined for nearly a year because of an achilles injury, the three-time best import made his return today and delivered strongly, contributing quality numbers all over the stat sheet. Offensively, he continues to excel as an inside operator, shooting 47.6% from two to finish as one of the game’s top scorers.
Jiovani Jalalon TNT PG 11 PTS | 13 REB | 11 AST | 41.1 FPS
The veteran stepped up in a massive way against Macau, finishing with an impressive triple-double. Offensively, he was brilliant, converting 5-of-7 attempts from two. He also dominated the secondary categories, pulling down a game-high 11 boards (with four offensive rebounds) while dishing out a game-high in assists. This marked the third triple-double of his career.
Christopher Elijah Newsome MER SG 24 PTS | 6 REB | 3 AST | 39.7 FPS
Newsome took charge offensively for the Bolts, knocking down three consecutive triples in the third quarter before stepping up in the clutch to lift his team to a much-needed win. He finished with a conference-best scoring performance.
Calvin John Oftana TNT SG 28 PTS | 5 REB | 1 STL | 36.5 FPS
TNT’s star forward was once again named the Best Player of the Game with a sensational scoring performance. He came out firing early, hitting three triples and scoring 13 points in the first quarter alone. Though he went quiet in the second, he re-ignited in the third, dropping 15 big points to put his team firmly in control.
John Paul Erram TNT C 15 PTS | 8 REB | 1 BLK | 30.6 FPS
Erram immediately made his mark in his return, delivering his best game of the conference. In just 13 minutes, he gave TNT a strong offensive spark off the bench, shooting 6-for-11 from two to set a new conference-high.
Regile Kent Ilagan BWB PG 15 PTS | 6 AST | 1 STL | 29.6 FPS
Ilagan was instrumental in the opening quarters, putting up 13 points and five assists, but he struggled to make the same impact in the second half, finishing with a subpar output. He’s struggled from two-point range lately, shooting just 3-for-14 over his last two games.
Henry Galinato Jr. TNT C 11 PTS | 11 REB | 2 AST | 27.2 FPS
Since the break, Galinato has provided a major boost to the offense, scoring in double figures in three consecutive games while shooting 14-for-21 from two. He added even more value today, posting his fourth double-digit rebounding performance of the conference.
Kier John Quinto MER SF 15 PTS | 9 REB | 3 AST | 26.3 FPS
Offensively, Quinto delivered, shooting well from all ranges to finish with a new conference-high. He also made his mark on the boards, finishing as the team’s top rebounder.
Clifford Marion Hodge MER PF 12 PTS | 8 REB | 3 AST | 25.1 FPS
Hodge provided a major offensive impact off the bench with a near double-double. He was effective from two, shooting 5-for-8 for his fifth double-digit scoring game of the conference. But he was most impressive on the boards, racking up seven offensive rebounds.
Javee Mocon MER SF 9 PTS | 8 REB | 2 AST | 18.6 FPS
The veteran forward made his presence felt against Blackwater, shooting 50% from the field while also finishing second in the team in rebounding. He continues to be a useful part of the rotation this conference, putting up this kind of production a couple of times.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE DAY:
Rey Benedict Nambatac TNT PG 8 PTS | 8 REB | 5 AST | 28.1 FPS
Overall, Nambatac had a productive outing, contributing positively in the secondary categories. Offensively, however, he had some struggles, shooting just 3-for-9 from the field and finishing with his second lowest scoring performance of the conference.
