The new NBA season is in full swing, and that means fantasy basketball is officially back on the menu.

We are currently in Week 3, and that has given us a decent sample size to see which players are starting to stand out from the pack. There’s been a lot of injuries to top stars, sadly, but that’s not our focus today.

Today, we’re looking at one of the top rookies and a potential contender for Rookie of the Year honors, Darius Acuff Jr.

Darius Acuff Jr.’s Role With the Sacramento Kings

The 7th overall pick in the draft, the Sacramento Kings selected Acuff as a point guard who could lead them into the future following the De’Aaron Fox era. It’s a great situation for a rookie since the expectation to win isn’t that pronounced, and he will have the longest leash in terms of performance.

In terms of fantasy basketball, Acuff’s average draft position (ADP) was at 105.8, meaning he was selected around the 8th to 9th round.

Darius Acuff Jr.’s Fantasy Basketball Stats and Early-Season Performance

As of this video, he’s averaging 26.3 points on 39.9% field goal shooting and making 3.2 of his whopping 9.8 attempts from beyond the arc. He doesn’t hurt managers in free throws either, making 86.2% of his attempts there.

In terms of being a lead guard, he’s averaging 6.3 assists thus far, a pretty decent number to balance out his scoring outbursts. However, his steals leave something to be desired, averaging 0.5 for now.

His best game, in terms of the box score, came against the Memphis Grizzlies and Rookie of the Year frontrunner Cam Boozer, where Acuff put up 38 points on 48% shooting from the field, 9 three-pointers made, 5 boards, and 5 assists to just 3 turnovers.

Fantasy Basketball Verdict: Should You Sell High or Keep Darius Acuff Jr.?

The Kings are nowhere near playoff contention once again, but fantasy managers who drafted Acuff should be in a decent position to start the season.

There will be those looking to sell high on him, thinking that he won’t be able to sustain this level of production. But if you ask us, he’s a season-long keeper.
