NBA Daily Metrics: Heat Outduel Magic,  Herro’s Breakout Run Comes With a Major Flaw

The Miami Heat (23-22) stormed back from a 13-point fourth-quarter deficit and survived the Orlando Magic (24-24) in double overtime, earning a 125-119 victory on January 28.

Miami Heat Top Performers:

Tyler Herro 30 PTS | 8 REB | 12 AST | 55.6 FPS

Herro has taken his game to the next level amidst the team’s issues. He’s reached his fifth 30+ point game this month and his fourth straight game with 7+ assists. But his newfound role and much higher usage have led to a drop in his efficiency coupled with surging turnovers.

Bam Adebayo 26 PTS | 10 REB | 9 AST | 51.5 FPS

Bam has been underperforming recently with the team’s issues. While he’s posted double-doubles in six of his last seven games, his lackluster defensive stats and inefficient shooting have been frustrating. But he snapped out of the trend today with a standout performance.

Kel’el Ware 19 PTS | 4-4 3PT | 10 REB | 37.0 FPS

Ware has shown his ability to contribute in multiple categories. He’s put up 19+ points in four of his last five games while delivering solid rebounds and defensive stats. He added another layer to his game today with a stellar performance from long range.

Duncan Robinson 15 PTS | 4 AST | 3 STL | 32.6 FPS

Robinson has hit 3+ threes in five consecutive contests while also making a noticeable impact in other areas.

Nikola Jovic 15 PTS | 7 REB | 2 STL | 29.4 FPS

Jovic has been a steady offensive presence, scoring in double figures in 11 of his last 13 games and draining multiple threes in 12 games this month. While his rebounding numbers have shown improvement, his assist production has done the opposite.

Orlando Magic Top Performers:

Franz Wagner 29 PTS | 8 REB | 3 AST | 40.1 FPS

Wagner’s recent performance suggests he’s quickly regaining his offensive form despite missing 20 games due to an oblique injury. He’s not at his most efficient, but he’s already recorded three straight games with 20+ points and made decent contributions in other areas.

Aaron Black 14 PTS | 3 AST | 5 STL | 36.7 FPS

Black has hit double digits in eight of his last nine games while reliably contributing in steals, threes, and assists. His rebounding has also shown signs of improvement, and with Suggs’ return uncertain, he’s poised to keep his hot streak going.

Tristan da Silva 17 PTS | 6 REB | 5 AST | 32.7 FPS

Da Silva’s move to the bench hasn’t lessened his role or his impact. His scoring might be hit-or-miss lately, but he’s still providing valuable contributions in threes, rebounds, and stocks.

Wendell Carter Jr. 14 PTS | 7 REB | 5 AST | 30.9 FPS

WCJ has stepped up with Bitadze’s absence, reaching double-digit points in six of his last seven games, grabbing 9+ rebounds five times, and consistently adding steals. Even with Bitadze back in action today, his impact hasn’t wavered—though it’s a situation worth keeping an eye on.

Goga Bitadze 10 PTS | 9 REB | 1 BLK | 26.8 FPS

Bitadze’s minutes were limited in his return, but he’s expected to eventually reclaim the starting spot from Carter. He’s been a force on both ends of the court this season, but his steady defensive stats are what truly set him apart.

Biggest Disappointment of the Game:

Paolo Banchero 17 PTS | 2-8 3PT | 5 TO

Banchero started strong offensively in his first four games after returning from injury but has been a bit uneven since, swinging between hot and cold performances. While his free-throw and three-point shooting have been problematic, he still provides reliable rebounds, assists, and defensive stats. However, a favorable schedule ahead should allow him to find a consistent rhythm.
