Kianna Dy didn’t hide from the PLDT High Speed Hitters’s’ rough start to the 2026–27 PVL All-Filipino Conference Siklab Series. To her, the two losses that opened the conference were exactly the wake-up call the High Speed Hitters needed.

PLDT has since won two straight, first beating the Capital1 Solar Spikers and then sweeping the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles, 25-20, 25-18, 25-16, on Thursday at the Santiago Sports Arena in Santiago, Isabela. Dy scored 8 points in the win.

“I guess I can say na it’s bad, but the two losses were a wake-up call for us,” said Dy.

“Especially in this conference na important talaga yung points, and important to make it to the top four. I guess for us it’s like a do-or-die na every game. We should give our all.”

Every win matters in the race for the semifinals. The victory over ZUS Coffee put PLDT in a four-way tie for fourth place with Farm Fresh, Akari, and Capital1.

Kianna Dy Identifies Key to PLDT Turnaround

Dy said the turnaround didn’t come from changing the system. The team just needed to play more like itself. PLDT had been looking good in practice and only needed a little more fight once games started.

“We just have to remember who we are kasi sa training, okay naman kami gumalaw. And I feel like we just need a little more push inside the game, and we should want it more and work as a team talaga,” she said.

The win was also a treat for the fans in Santiago. PLDT’s PVL On Tour match against ZUS Coffee there was canceled on Aug. 8 because of Tropical Depression Maymay.

“Always a pleasure playing in front of the fans, especially in Santiago City. We weren’t able to go [sa] On Tour, [so] super happy na nagawan pa rin ng paraan na we’re able to play in front of everyone,” she said.

With PLDT now playing better, Dy hopes the team keeps building on its two wins.

“We didn’t start the conference well, and hopefully tuloy-tuloy na yung momentum namin from our two wins, and hopefully ma-build pa namin yung chemistry and work on pa yung kailangan naming i-work on.”

Kianna Dy and the rest of the High Speed Hitters will next face the Creamline Cool Smashers on Thursday, November 5, at 6:00 p.m. at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig.
