Cuban volleyball player Wilma Salas only spent two weeks with the PLDT High Speed Hitters as the team’s import in the 2025 AVC Women’s Champions League, but she already found a home and a new set of girlfriends in her teammates.
After the High Speed Hitters bowed out of the competition after absorbing a 13-25, 22-25, 20-25 defeat against Zhetysu Volleyball Club of Kazakhstan, Salas said she will return to her home country with a heart full of love.
“I say [after] the first conference, I feel like [I’m] home with PLDT. I will go back to my country happy. The opportunity is good for me, that’s why I would like to thank [everyone] for the opportunity to represent the Philippines. For sure, the Philippines is in my heart everytime, so, thank you for this.”
Against Queensland Pirates in the preliminary round, Salas scored 10 points in eight attacks, a block, and an ace. Against the Nakhon Ratchasima QminC, Salas had 22 points in 20 attacks and two blocks.
In their quarterfinal loss, Salas was the second-best scorer for the High Speed Hitters with 11 points in nine attacks and two blocks.
She ended, “This team (Zhetysu VC), with this level, I know it’s like a European style, tall, and it’s different, it’s so tall. Today, [our team], we all put together inside the court. Me and my team fight. So, I am happy for this.”
Before playing with the High Speed Hitters, Salas was a two-time import of the Petro Gazz Angels in the PVL, playing in the 2019 PVL Reinforced Conference and 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference.
