Alex Eala is now qualified for the main draw of the WTA 250 Lexus Nottingham Open after defeating Anca Todoni in three sets during their Round 2 Qualifiers match last night, June 15.
12 Aces Against Eala Won’t Be Enough
Despite the world ranking no. 87, knocking down 12 aces in their match, the world ranked no. 77 from the Philippines won’t easily lose without putting up a fight, as Eala forced a 3-set thriller against Todoni of Romania.
Final Score: 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3
In the match that lasted for 2 hours and 19 minutes, the pride of Quezon City, Philippines made sure to get ahead in the statistical category of both: 1st serve points won 51/71 (71.8%) – 43/62 (69.4%) and in 2nd serve points won 18/28 (64.3%) – 12/26 (46.2%)
The 20-year-old tennis legend is now on a 2 game winning streak on the grass court in Nottingham. It can be recalled that in Round 1 of the qualifiers, Eala defeated Varvara Gracheva through 3-Sets as well.

In the main draw set to begin on the evening of Tuesday, June 17 (Manila time), Alex Eala is set to face another veteran tennis player in the name of Magda Linette of Poland.
The 33-year-old is currently ranked no. 31 and once upon a time reached the career ranked no. 19.
Coincidentally, Alex lost in the previous quarterfinals of the Ilkley Open tournament when she also faced a veteran tennis star in Rebecca Marino.
