Alex Eala will participate in a mixed doubles exhibition match at “Stars of the Open” during US Open Fan Week on August 27, pairing with World No. 25 João Fonseca. This latest showcase, to be held at the famed Arthur Ashe Stadium, is further proof that Eala is a rising star—if she isn’t one already.
A yearly event staged by the US Open Grand Slam tournament itself, “Stars of the Open” is part of the festivities included in the seven‑day fan week from August 23 to 29.
Arguably one of most famous young tennis player in recent times, Alex Eala has consistently drawn attention and boosted ticket sales at every tournament she has entered since her breakthrough at the Miami Open last year. This time, she will make her debut at US Open Fan Week. Playing alongside her is João Fonseca, who is no stranger to “Stars of the Open,” having competed in doubles last year.
Currently the No. 1 singles player from Brazil and ranked World No. 25, Fonseca reached the second round at last year’s US Open, holds two ATP Tour titles, and was the 2024 Next Gen Finals champion. He also won the boys’ singles title at the US Open in 2023, defeating Learner Tien in the final.

On the opposing side are Alex Eala’s close friend Iva Jovic and 20‑year‑old Learner Tien.
Jovic reached the second round at the US Open in each of the last two years. The 18‑year‑old American scored her first major win with a first‑round victory in New York last year, becoming the youngest American to win a women’s main‑draw match at the tournament since 2000. She also broke into the Top 20 of the WTA Rankings earlier this year.
As for Tien, the No. 3 American singles player was a 2023 US Open boys’ singles finalist, falling to Fonseca in three sets. Building on a stellar 2025 season that culminated in his crowning as the Next Gen ATP Finals champion, Tien made his Top 20 debut earlier this year.
Crucially, part of the proceeds of this exhibition’s ticket sales will go to the USTA Foundation. Specifically, $11.88 of the face value of each ticket shall be donated to the USTA Foundation, with up to a combined maximum possible donation of $250,000. The USTA Foundation is a charitable organization whose mission is to bring tennis and education together to change lives.
With a fun exhibition ahead, avid tennis fans will be treated to an unforgettable week at the last Grand Slam tournament of the year.
