Alex Eala will once again share the court with tennis legend Venus Williams, as the Filipina‑American duo is set to compete in the doubles event of the WTA 500 Mubadala Open.
Take 2 for Eala and Williams
The Mubadala DC Open confirmed the pairing through its official Instagram account, adding further buzz to the upcoming hard‑court season.
The young Filipina and the American legend first teamed up earlier this year at the WTA 500 Bad Homburg Open on grass, where they won their opening‑round match against Alexandra Osborne and Catherine Harrison, 6‑3, 6‑4. Their run ended in the quarterfinals against second seeds Tereza Mihalikova and Olivia Nicholls.
This time, the duo will have more preparation before their opening match, which also marks the start of Eala’s hard‑court campaign following her impressive Wimbledon showing.
Tournament Landscape
Last year’s Mubadala Open doubles crown went to Taylor Townsend and Zhang Shuai. This year, only Zhang returns, partnering with Southeast Asian standout Janice Tjen of Indonesia.
Eala, 21, will also feature in the singles main draw, facing a star‑studded field that includes Naomi Osaka, Jasmine Paolini, and defending champion Leylah Fernandez.
