For the first time in the 2026 Formula 1 season, a non-Mercedes team crossed the checkered flag in first place.

Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton continues to prove father time wrong nearly two decades into his racing career, notching his first victory for the Maranello-based squad—and his first overall win in two years—at the age of 41.

After pitting for the third time in the 42nd lap, the British driver remained in front thanks to a virtual safety car controlling the pace, ultimately securing a comfortable victory in the latter stages of the race.

“I started out a dream last year, which seemed almost impossible… We nearly gave up hope, the team just continued to lift me up. We made so many changes and so many improvements… So thank you to everybody,” Hamilton said post-race.

Hamilton Headlines All-British Podium

Rounding out the podium with Hamilton’s 106th career win were former teammate George Russell and reigning champion Lando Norris. The three drivers made history as the first all-British podium in F1 since the US Grand Prix back in 1968.

With the victory, Hamilton now climbs to second in the season points tally with 90, still trailing Kimi Antonelli, who remains on top of the list after seizing five straight victories.

Meanwhile, fellow Ferrari standout Charles Leclerc once again failed to finish, as brake failure in the 63rd lap forced the Monegasque driver to his second consecutive DNF.

Aside from Leclerc, Antonelli also experienced car issues of his own in the dying moments of the race, as engine problems in the 62nd lap prompted the Italian driver’s first DNF this season.

Regardless, Mercedes remains in the fight, as they still hold a comfortable lead in the constructors’ championship, boasting 244 points midway through the season.

The grid returns to action after a one-week break at the Red Bull Ring in the Austrian Grand Prix on June 28.
