Here are the players who made the biggest impact on July 12 and the stats to prove it.
TOP PERFORMERS OF THE DAY:
DeQuan Jones NLEX SF 30 PTS | 7 REB | 3 BLK
Offensively, Jones had a fantastic start, exploding for 25 points in the opening half. In the second half, however, he went cold, converting just 2 of 9 of his attempts. Despite that, he still finished as the game’s leading scorer while setting a new conference high for points.
Robert Bolick NLX PG 12 PTS | 4 REB | 7 AST
Though Bolick finished with a full stat line, his numbers were still below his usual standard. In terms of playmaking, he remained productive, recording at least seven assists for the second straight game. His scoring, however, has been lacking, as he has posted subpar numbers in each of his first two games.
Deschon Winston NLX SG 13 PTS | 5 REB | 6 AST
This was a well-rounded performance from the guard, as he finished as one of the team’s top rebounders and playmakers. In scoring, however, he’s yet to find his rhythm, failing to reach the 15-point mark in either of his first two games. He had accomplished that nine times in the previous conference.
Justin Strings TER PF 18 PTS | 13 REB | 6 AST
Through his first two games, Strings hasn’t been very efficient offensively, shooting below 35% from the field and converting just 1-of-8 from three-point range. But he’s more than made up for it in other categories, averaging 14.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists.
Maverick Ahanmisi TER SG 19 PTS | 6 REB | 6 AST
The veteran guard took over offensively for Terrafirma, converting 8-of-13 from the field, including three triples, to finish with a team-high in points. With several key players gone, he should be poised for more strong scoring performances this conference.
Shaun Geoffrey Chiu TER C 5 PTS | 15 REB | 3 BLK
Offensively, Chiu had a tough time against NLEX, shooting just 2-for-7 from the field. But he was able to compensate with another dominant rebounding performance, finishing as the game’s leading rebounder while also recording eight offensive boards.
Juan Miguel Tiongson TER PG 19 PTS | 3 AST | 2 STL
Tiongson had a solid scoring performance against Titan but he was even better today, scoring seven points in the fourth quarter and finishing with a team-high in points. During the 2023-24 season with Terrafirma, he averaged 20.6 points across 24 games.
Conrad Joey Catapusan TER SF 9 PTS | 2 REB | 2 STL
Catapusan came up big today, hitting three three-pointers to ignite the team’s fourth-quarter comeback. He also finished with a new season-high in points.
King Caralipio TIT SF 10 PTS | 5 REB | 3 STL
The forward was moved into the starting lineup today and made the most of it, posting his best scoring game with Titan. He also made a big mark on defense, leading all local players in steals while also contributing positively in rebounding.
Renato Ular TIT C 9 PTS | 8 REB | 1 BLK
The center stepped up today, nearly posting a double-double output. He was excellent on the boards, leading the team in rebounds and posting his best rebounding game since the last conference. Offensively, however, he had a difficult time, converting just 4-of-16.
Justin Arana CON C 14 PTS | 5 REB | 3 AST
The center was the team’s best local player in this game. He was steady on offense, shooting 6-of-9 on two-pointers while also collecting three offensive rebounds. Still, he should be in line for bigger games going forward. In the previous conference, he averaged 14.5 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
Juan Gerardo Gomez De Liaño CON PG 2 PTS | 9 REB | 9 AST
This was a rough game offensively for the star guard, as he missed all five of his shots, finished with a career-low point total, and also committed four turnovers. But it wasn’t all negative, as he was still able to make a significant impact through his rebounding and playmaking. Last conference, he averaged 5.4 rebounds and 4.7 assists across nine games.
Calvin Abueva CON PF 6 PTS | 11 REB | 4 AST
In terms of scoring, things hadn’t gone smoothly for Abueva today, as he shot just 2-for-7 from the field including missing all four of his attempts from three. But he compensated on the boards, leading all players in rebounding and posting his best rebounding game with Converge.
Michael Kurtiz Williams CON SG 13 PTS | 2 REB | 3 AST
The former MVP struggled from deep, hitting just 1-of-5 but he was excellent from two-point range, going 5-for-7. This was his fourth double-digit scoring game since he returned to the league last conference.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE DAY:
Joshua Eugene Munzon TIT SF 6 PTS | 4 AST | 2 STL
It was a difficult night for Munzon, who never managed to get into a groove on offense. He finished just 2-for-10 from the field and recorded a season-low in scoring. Titan will definitely need a far better showing from him if they want to turn around their 0-2 start.
