Here are the players who made the biggest impact on July 17 and the stats to prove it.
TOP PERFORMERS OF THE DAY:
Justin Arana CON C 39 PTS | 12 REB | 3 AST
The star big man was simply unstoppable against Macau. He came out firing, scoring 22 points in the first half on a blistering 10-of-12 shooting and continued to dominate after the break, adding 11 points in the third quarter to help his team stay in control. This was his second straight 30-point game of the conference and also his new career-high in scoring.
Juan Gerardo Gomez De Liaño CON PG 10 PTS | 9 REB | 12 AST
Outside of his scoring, Juan had an underwhelming overall performance in their win against Terrafirma. But he was back to his usual self today, nearly recording a triple-double while posting his best rebounding and playmaking game since the last conference. Offensively, however, he had only a modest outing. Nevertheless, he still delivered a strong all-around game and should be able to find more rhythm moving forward.
Calvin Abueva CON PF 13 PTS | 8 REB | 2 STL
The veteran was impressive in every way today. He was effective on offense, shooting 6-for-10 on two-pointers to secure his first double-digit scoring game of the conference while also recording a team-high three offensive rebounds. Elsewhere, he provided solid value while finishing with zero turnovers.
Michael Kurtiz Williams CON SG 16 PTS | 4 REB | 3 AST
The Converge guard continued to struggle from three-point range, going 0-for-4 today to drop to a dismal 2-for-12 through his first three games. He made up for it inside, however, shooting a highly efficient 8-for-11 on two-pointers to match his season-high in scoring.
Ramon Cao MGP C 41 PTS | 8 REB | 3 AST
In his first two games this conference, Cao struggled offensively, averaging just six points. However, he completely turned things around against Converge. He poured in 20 points in the first half alone and finished with a league record five 4-pointers to secure his best scoring performance in the league.
De’Vondre Perry MGP PF 35 PTS | 15 REB | 2 STL
This was an outstanding offensive performance from the Macau import. The wing shot 9-for-14 from two, knocked down two 4-pointers, and also converted 6-for-7 from the line to set his new scoring best in the league. In other areas, he was highly productive as well, posting his third straight game with at least 14 rebounds while averaging 2.7 steals.
Kobey Ketavong Lam MGP SG 26 PTS | 2 REB | 4 AST
Lam has been playing exceptionally well on the offensive end. Over his last two games, he’s averaged 24 points while converting 9-for-16 from two and an even more impressive 9-for-14 from three.
Kentrell Debarus Barkley BWB SF 26 PTS | 11 REB | 3 BLK
The Blackwater import continues to impress, posting his second consecutive, 25-point and 10-rebound performance. He also came through when it mattered most, scoring 8 points in the last four minutes to help his team secure the win. Defensively, he also made his mark, leading all players in blocks.
Abu Jahal Tratter BWB C 4 PTS | 11 REB | 1 AST
Tratter was instrumental in their win against Magnolia, making his presence felt in the paint. He collected five offensive rebounds, tying the game-high mark while also setting a new season-high.
Regile Kent Ilagan BWB PG 20 PTS | 1 REB | 1 STL |
Offensively, Ilagan was steady throughout the game, finishing as the team’s top local scorer. This marked his second straight 20-point outing and his fourth in the season.
Dalph Adem Panopio BWB PG 12 PTS | 3 REB | 1 STL
Though his performance wasn’t as strong as his previous one, the rookie guard still made a positive impact offensively, shooting well from both two-point and three-point range. This marked his 11th double-digit scoring performance of the season.
Kenyon Joseph Buffen MAG SF 32 PTS | 11 REB | 2 STL
Though he struggled from two-point range, Buffen was lethal from the three-point area, knocking down 6-of-9 to finish as the game’s leading scorer. He was equally impressive on the boards, tying the game-high mark in rebounds. This was a strong bounce back performance and the team will certainly need more of these to recover from their slow start.
Jerom Lastimosa MAG PG 11 PTS | 2 REB | 4 AST
Overall, this was a subpar performance from the guard. Still, he finished as the team’s top local scorer while posting a game-high in assists. In the previous conference, he averaged 14.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
Ian Paul Sangalang MAG C 10 PTS | 3 REB | 5 TO
The veteran center recently made history, reaching 5,000 career points in their loss to Phoenix, and he stayed locked in offensively today, going perfect on all five of his two-point attempts. Turnovers were the only negative in an otherwise solid performance.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE DAY:
Sedrick Barefield BWB SG 10 PTS | 3 REB | 4 AST
The Blackwater star struggled badly on the offensive end, shooting just 4-for-16 from the field including missing all of his seven three-point attempts. This marked his lowest scoring game since last conference and the third time that he scored fewer than 15 points.
