The San Miguel Beermen defeated the Terrafirma Dyip, 126-110, on Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. The workmanlike victory improved the Beermen’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup record to 6-5 ahead of the playoffs while dropping Terrafirma to 4-7 and out of the quarterfinals race.
What Happened?
Terrafirma roared to a 10-1 lead early in the game on the strength of Paolo Hernandez’s playmaking. But Bennie Boatwright found his rhythm while the Beermen’s bench duo of Jericho Cruz and Don Trollano began hitting their mark. By the end of the first, San Miguel had erased the Dyip’s lead, turning that nine-point deficit into a 23-16 advantage. San Miguel continued firing on all cylinders in the second, outscoring Terrafirma 35-30 to take a 58-46 halftime lead.
It was much the same in the second half, with the Beermen showing off their firepower with a 34-point third quarter and another 34-point fourth. Terrafirma scored 32 in each of those quarters, but its inability to make stops allowed the Beermen to cruise to victory.

Who Stood Out?
Boatwright and June Mar Fajardo inflicted heavy damage, with Boatwright scoring 33 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists, while Fajardo notched 30 points, 16 boards, and 4 assists. Trollano and Cruz, meanwhile, added 17 apiece off the bench, with Trollano contributing 6 rebounds and 5 assists, and Cruz recording 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
Jerrick Ahanmisi starred for Terrafirma, coming off the bench to put up 24 points on three treys. He also had 3 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Rookie Geo Chiu added a 12-point, 16-rebound double-double.
3 Keys to the Game
- Firepower. The Beermen simply had too many weapons. Fajardo carved up the Dyip inside, Boatwright dominated everywhere on the court, and Trollano and Cruz repeatedly broke down Terrafirma’s defense.
- Consistency. San Miguel has been inconsistent this conference, both overall and within games. Against Terrafirma, however, the Beermen may have delivered their most consistent effort. They overcame a slow start before posting three 30-point quarters to overpower the Dyip.
- Bench mob. San Miguel’s reserves outscored Terrafirma’s bench by just 10 points, 48-38, but their impact was far greater. The game turned when Trollano and Cruz entered.
