After claiming silver in the Singles division of the National Women’s Open and gold in Doubles, rising star Stefi Aludo is looking forward to maintaining the same routines with her running mate and occasional rival Tenny Madis once they play for the University of Hawaii.
On Saturday morning, Aludo fell short of claiming the inaugural Singles championship after losing to her Doubles partner, Tenny Madis, 6-2, 7-5.
In an exclusive interview with Rebanse, the 17-year-old tennis star said she is eager to continue practicing with Madis once they both suit up for the University of Hawaii come September 2026.
“Sana same pa rin po ‘yung routine namin ni Tenny doon, which is ‘yung pag gapang talaga sa court kase iba na ang level doon sa D1 school talaga,” Aludo said. “So, ‘yun po ‘yung ilu-look forward namin na kakayanin namin doon.”
Same Grounds for Aludo and Madis
Despite playing twice in finals already—including their Visayas Open Leg 1 matchup—the pride of Trento, Agusan del Sur said she’s grateful to compete against someone she trained with and who shares the same background.
“It feels great and opportunity pa rin ‘yun na makalaban ko si Tenny. ‘Yun nga, same grounds kami nag tra-training. Well, both PTA players naman po kami, so no pressure,” Stefi said.
Despite now being 0-2 in her head-to-head matchup against Madis, the second seed of the tournament said that everyone still came away winners after their championship duel on Saturday.
“’Yung last Visayas Open ‘yun po ‘yung pinaka grabe ‘yung match namin. It was a third set and ‘yun po, siyempre ginapang po namin lahat and lahat naman panalo,” Aludo added. “It was a good fight naman po and bawi nalang next time.”
