Victor Wembanyama delivered another masterpiece for the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday—39 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 blocks—in a 115-108 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves that pushed them ahead 2-1 in the series.
He was everywhere. He went 13-for-18 from the floor, 10-for-12 from the line, and closed the game with 16 points in the fourth quarter. His defense wrecked Minnesota’s rhythm, his rebounding sealed possessions, and his poise under foul trouble kept San Antonio steady.
“It was like holding the ship together. We had a lead. We didn’t need to rush. We needed to be consistent,” Wembanyama said afterward.
De’Aaron Fox added 17 points. Stephon Castle chipped in 13 points and 12 assists, finishing with a team-high plus-17 rating.
Spurs, Wemby Too Much for Ant-Man, Wolves
Anthony Edwards fought back with 32 points and 14 rebounds, showing his resilience after returning from a deep bone bruise in his left knee. He had 22 in the first half alone, helping Minnesota recover from an early 18-3 hole. Naz Reid gave them 18 points and 9 rebounds, but the Wolves couldn’t stop San Antonio’s third-quarter surge—6-for-10 from deep that flipped the game.
Jaden McDaniels drew Wembanyama’s fifth foul with 6:18 left, then cut the lead to 99-98 on free throws. But Spurs coach Mitch Johnson didn’t blink. “We were going to not leave any bullets in the chamber in terms of keeping him on the bench,” Johnson said. “We were going to play him, and then if he fouled out, we deal with that.”
Wembanyama answered with a dagger 3-pointer over Reid to push the lead back to six with 3:06 remaining. Reid tried to match it, missed, and Wembanyama pulled down another rebound.
Spurs Takes Wolves’ Best Hits
The Timberwolves had their moments. Edwards hit a buzzer-beating 31-footer to end the first quarter. McDaniels swished a wing 3-pointer to tie it at 51-all at halftime. But the Wolves missed their first 12 shots of the game, and they couldn’t quite recover despite defensive grit.
McDaniels and Julius Randle struggled most against Wembanyama’s length, combining to shoot 8-for-34. Edwards summed it up: “I went in the locker room and told the guys we had a bunch of great looks. If we make our shots, we win this game.”
Game 4 is Monday in Minnesota. Game 5 shifts back to San Antonio on Wednesday.
