UAAP Season 88 Women’s Volleyball: Adamson Sweeps UST, Grabs Share of Third

The Adamson Lady Falcons created a logjam in third place as they defeated the UST Golden Tigresses, 27-25, 25-20, 26-24, in the UAAP Season 88 Women’s Volleyball Tournament at the Filoil Centre in San Juan.

In the third set, the Golden Tigresses were on track to extend the match after building an 18-14 lead. However, the Lady Falcons responded with a 6-2 run to tie the game at 20-all.

Adamson and UST then exchanged points until 24-all, before Shaina Nitura delivered a crosscourt hit and Eloi Dote sealed the win with a block.

“We thank the Lord for the win and sa pagbibigay ng courage sa mga bata this game. We expected a very tough game because we know na UST ay lalaban,” said Lady Falcons head coach JP Yude.

“I always reminded them, especially nung third set, na we keep on going and we don’t give up because everything is possible.”

Shaina Nitura Soars for Adamson

Nitura led the Lady Falcons with 19 points, along with 14 excellent receptions and 10 excellent digs. Frances Mordi added 18 points and 11 excellent receptions.

Setter Fhei Sagaysay orchestrated the offense with 21 excellent sets, while libero Althea Aposaga recorded 11 excellent digs and 8 excellent receptions.

For the Golden Tigresses, Angge Poyos was the lone player to score in double digits with 15 points and 12 excellent receptions.

The Lady Falcons will next face the UP Fighting Maroons on Wednesday, April 15, at 5:00 p.m. at the Quadricentennial Pavilion. Meanwhile, the Golden Tigresses will face the same team on Sunday, April 19, at 1:00 p.m. at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
