Here are the players who made the biggest impact on May 3 and the stats to prove it.
TOP PERFORMERS OF THE DAY:
Mubashar Ali TER C 24 PTS | 16 REB | 5 AST | 56.7 FPS
Through the early weeks of the conference, the big man was easily one of the top players in the league, thanks to his strong contributions from the paint. While he’s been far less productive lately, he was able to turn it back up with today’s performance. Through ten games, Ali has averaged 23.5 points and 16.6 rebounds, which is the best among active players.
Jerrick Vincent Ahanmisi TER SG 29 PTS | 8 AST | 2 STL | 48.2 FPS
Offensively, the shooting guard was locked in today, finishing as the game’s top scorer and playmaker. He was also highly efficient, shooting 8-for-10 from two-point range while finishing without a single turnover. Through ten games in the conference, he has been exceptional, posting averages of 22.5 points, 4.7 assists and 1.5 steals per outing.
Justin Arana CON C 21 PTS | 7 REB | 1 BLK | 37.4 FPS
The center came up huge today, impacting the game in almost every category. Offensively, he led the charge, shooting 10-for-13 from the field and matching his conference-high. After an inconsistent start in the tournament, he has completely turned it around, averaging 17.5 points over the last six games.
Deschon Winston NLX SG 21 PTS | 4 REB | 5 AST | 36.3 FPS
The shooting guard was superb against his former team, finishing with a well-rounded performance. Still, he was most impressive on the scoring end, going 13-for-16 from the line to post his fifth 20-point game of the tournament.
Robert Lee Bolick NLX PG 21 PTS | 3 REB | 5 AST | 33.1 FPS
From distance, the franchise player had some trouble today, shooting a combined 3-for-10 but he was able to make up for it from two and at the line to finish with his seventh 20-point game of the tournament.
Juan Gerardo Gomez de Liano CON PG 9 PTS | 8 REB | 8 AST | 30.6 FPS
It was a highly contrasting performance for the Converge guard. Offensively, he was on fire from three, hitting a perfect 3-for-3 but it was the complete opposite from four where he missed all five of his attempts. Elsewhere, he was second in the team in rebounding while also leading the team in assists but he was far from efficient, finishing with six turnovers.
Donovan Smith CON C 6 PTS | 6 REB | 4 STL | 28.2 FPS
It was an ugly performance, to put it mildly. Smith couldn’t get going anything offensively, shooting 3-for-13 overall which includes going 0-for-6 from beyond the arcs. He was also far less productive today in rebounding while also committing three turnovers.
Shaun Geoffrey Chiu TER C 12 PTS | 11 REB | 2 AST | 26.2 FPS
It took him ten games, but the first overall pick finally broke through offensively, posting the first double-digit scoring performance of his career. Overall, it has been a decent conference for Chiu; he averaged 6.5 points on 44% shooting from two-point range, along with 9.3 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per outing.
John Matthew Bravo TER PF 12 PTS | 6 REB | 2 AST | 22.2 FPS
The rookie hasn’t had the same success he did in the previous conference, but he’s starting to put together more strong performances like this one. He was excellent from two-point range today, going 6-for-7, while also finishing third on the team in rebounds.
Justine Baltazar CON PF 9 PTS | 9 REB | 1 TO | 18.8 FPS
The forward has always been a threat in the paint, and he proved it again today, shooting well on two-pointers and leading the team in rebounding. Even so, it was still a subpar performance for his caliber.
Anthony Paul Semerad NLX PF 11 PTS | 7 REB | 1 TO | 18.4 FPS
This was the fifth time this conference that Semerad has reached the double digit scoring mark and also his fifth game converting at least three three-pointers. While he doesn’t have many strong rebounding performances in the tournament, he delivered today, finishing second on the team on boards.
Louelljay Gonzales NLX PG 4 PTS | 7 REB | 4 AST | 17.4 FPS
Offensively, the rookie has hit a wall over his last two games, scoring just nine points on poor shooting. Still, he made up for it in other areas, notching a fourth straight 5-rebound performance to rank second on the team in rebounding while also contributing as a playmaker.
Maverick Ahanmisi TER SG 9 PTS | 3 REB | 3 AST | 15.1 FPS
Overall, this was still a positive showing for the guard. While he couldn’t match his level from their game against NLEX, he was still effective offensively and also contributed well in other categories.
Archie Concepcion CON SG 10 PTS | 1 REB | 1 STL | 14.2 FPS
The wing was one of only two players on the team who scored in double-figures today. While he was impressive from two, going 5-6, he couldn’t do the same from three, where he missed all five of his attempts. Still, Concepcion has been a dependable two-way contributor for the team in the tournament.
Calvin Abueva CON PF 8 PTS | 4 REB | 1 AST | 12.3 FPS
On two-pointers, the veteran forward was excellent, hitting 4-of-6, though it was a different story from distance, where he went 0-for-4. Nevertheless, he has nearly hit the double-digit mark for the third straight game while also making a positive impact on the boards.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE DAY:
Michael Kurtiz Williams CON SG 4 PTS | 2 REB | 2 AST | 8.4 FPS
The last two games have been rough for the former MVP, who scored just nine points on a dismal 3-for-15 shooting while also making little impact overall. At this point, it’s been a disappointing conference for him, which isn’t surprising given his long layoff. Even so, he still has it offensively and he should be able to perform at a much higher level next conference.
