Alex Eala will partner with former opponent Victoria Mboko in the doubles tournament of Roland Garros, which will run from May 24 to June 7.

During last year’s Hong Kong Open, Eala and Mboko faced each other in singles competition, with the Canadian emerging victorious over the Filipina in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Eala and Mboko: Wins and Losses by the Numbers

Alex Eala is currently ranked World No. 88 in doubles. She holds a 1-3 win-loss record in clay-court doubles matches this season following her recent Italian Open exit.

Across both hard and clay courts this year, the 20-year-old owns a 4-7 doubles record.

The farthest the Rafa Nadal Academy alumna has advanced this season in doubles competition was the semifinals of the ASB Classic and the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open. Meanwhile, her campaign at the Madrid Open ended in the Round of 16.

Her partner, Victoria Mboko, is currently ranked No. 133 in doubles and lost her lone clay-court doubles match this year at the Madrid Open.

Overall, the 19-year-old Canadian holds an even 5-5 record in doubles competition this season. Her best finish came at the Indian Wells Open, where she reached the quarterfinals.

Entering Roland Garros, the duo will face some of the world’s top pairings, headlined by Kateřina Siniaková and Taylor Townsend—the same tandem that handed Eala two doubles defeats earlier this year.

Defending champions Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani are also returning as they aim to capture back-to-back French Open titles.

Alex Eala: A Champion at Roland Garros as a Junior

Interestingly, Alex Eala won the girls’ doubles title at Roland Garros in 2021 as a junior.

She captured the trophy alongside Oksana Selekhmeteva, and impressively, the pair did not drop a single set throughout their five-match title run.

Now, nearly five years later, fans are hoping the Quezon City native can replicate that success—perhaps not in as dominant a fashion, but enough to regain her confidence and winning rhythm on clay courts.

While chemistry remains an important factor in Eala’s doubles campaigns, one thing is certain: She has shown, albeit many years ago, that she knows how to win in these situations.
