Mikey Williams believes the Converge FiberXers are heading in the right direction.
With a perfect 3‑0 start to the PBA Governors’ Cup, it is hard to argue. Converge extended its winning run to three with a 149‑124 rout of the Macau Giant Pandas on Friday, as eight FiberXers finished with at least 10 points. Justin Arana led the way with a career‑best 39, while Williams chipped in 16 on 8‑for‑16 shooting, along with 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
“I think we just got things clicking right now. Things are coming together,” Williams told Rebanse after the game. “We’ve been in the lab really working hard, and I think it’s paying off. Everybody’s buying into what we have, the philosophies, and everything that the coaches are preaching to us. I think if we just continue on this path, we’ll be fine.”
Mikey Williams Is Starting to Get Into a Groove
If Converge is finding its rhythm, Mikey Williams appears to be doing the same. The former two‑time PBA Finals MVP certainly thinks so.
“I found my footing now. I think I just had to come in and be myself. I’m feeling a lot more comfortable,” Williams said. “Taking some time off definitely didn’t help. I was just trying to find my legs and finally get them under me. I’m just trying to continue to keep working, keep staying in the gym, and go as far as I can.”
Last conference, Williams returned to the PBA after a four‑year hiatus and looked far from the flame-throwing fireball he was in his prime with the TNT Tropang 5G he once was with TNT Tropang 5G. He averaged just 8.1 points on a poor 27.2% clip. This conference, however, he is producing 12.6 points on 44.7% shooting, with 3.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists.
That is not to say Mikey Williams is back to MVP form. But with Converge clicking collectively, perhaps he does not need to be.
