It’s been a rough start to the 2024-2025 NBA season for the Philadelphia 76ers, but they’re finally slowly getting back on track.
The Sixers visited the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center on Wednesday (December 4, 2024) for their second matchup of the season. However, Philly, despite not having Joel Embiid, escaped with a win, 110-104, behind a classic outing from Paul George.
Sixers Win Two Straight for the First Time This Season
PG led the charge with 29 points, 2 assists, and 8 rebounds. George, 34, has been battling injuries even though they’re just 19 games into the season. However, the 9-time NBA All-Star is looking mighty good after his stellar performance against Charlotte.
Meanwhile, Tyrese Maxey fired for 21 points, 7 assists, and 3 rebounds including his clutch performance in the final seconds of the 4th quarter that resulted in a much-needed victory. Maxey scored 8 of his 21 points in the final 30 seconds which allowed Philadelphia to seal the deal. Rookie Jared McCain came off the bench this time and chipped in 17 points, leading all of the Sixers’ reserves.
This is the first that Philadelphia managed to win back-to-back games after beating the Detroit Pistons on December 3.
As for Charlotte, the future’s looking bright for the city with their young core performing well despite the loss. Without LaMelo Ball, sophomore Brandon Miller went up for a game-high 34 points while newly acquired Nick Richards recorded a 22-point, 14-rebound double-double for the night. Rookies Tidjane Salaun and K.J. Simpson also had a pretty impressive outing. Salaun recorded his first double-double after getting 10 points and 10 boards while Simpson tallied 8 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds.
The Hornets (6-15) are surprisingly 0-2 against the Sixers (5-14). They’ll meet again on December 17 and December 21.
