The PBA has suspended its Sunday double-header later today due to continuing inclement weather.
“In light of the severe weather conditions, and with the safety of our fans, players, officials, and staff as our top priority, the PBA has decided to POSTPONE its Sunday, August 9 games,” the league wrote in an official announcement posted on its social media pages.
Scheduled for this Sunday was a twinbill featuring a showdown between the Phoenix Fuel Masters and Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, and a clash between the Blackwater Bossing and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. The former would’ve been a matchup of Group B leaders, as both Phoenix and Rain or Shine tote a 4-2 record. The latter, meanwhile, would’ve had top-four implications, as Blackwater is currently running third in the group with a 3-3 slate, while Ginebra is fifth at 2-3.
When Will the Canceled PBA Double-Header Be Played?
As of this writing, the PBA’s announcement only covered the suspension of today’s games. There’s no word yet on when the pair of matchups will be rescheduled.
“Please standby for the updated schedule of games, which will be announced soon through our official channels,” the league further wrote. “The PBA urges everyone to take all necessary precautions and to stay safe.”
Curiously, two PBA games had been delayed due to torrential downpours that caused leakage. The start of the fourth quarter of the game between the Magnolia Hotshots and Meralco Bolts—which the Hotshots won, 105-88—was delayed for 40 minutes due to a roof leak at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. A day later, on Saturday, the game between the San Miguel Beermen and Macau Giant Pandas was delayed for a few minutes after the Ynares Center in Montalban encountered the same problem.
Now, with continuous bad weather, the PBA has chosen to cancel the games altogether to ensure the safety of all.
