Jenning Leung Says Macau Hanging onto Pride After Breakthrough Win Over Titan Ultra

It can get frustrating when losses pile on one after the other. And the Ls certainly kept coming for the Macau Black Knights—until they finally broke through on Tuesday thanks to Jenning Leung going off for his PBA-best 32 points on 7-for-10 shooting from downtown.

With Leung leading the way, the Black Knights unleashed a 41-16 second quarter en route to a 119-107 dismantlng of the Titan Ultra Giant Risers. It is Macau’s first win of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup after starting out with seven straight defeats.

All About Pride, Says Jenning Leung

Later on, Jenning Leung was asked how he and his teammates kept their focus even with all the losing going on. And his answer?

“I think it’s just pride,” he told reporters. “Like I said earlier, we were knocking on the door for a couple of wins. And I think we have a lot of pride, and we don’t want to keep losing. So, every game’s a chance to get a win. We came together and got the win.”

Indeed, Macau had been knocking on that door lately, first taking the Meralco Bolts into deep waters before ultimately losing, 115-110, after a tense endgame. The Black Knights then gave the NLEX Road Warriors all they could handle but fell short in the fourth again.

Jenning Leung Made Sure Against Titan

Ranged against a team also in the bottom of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup standings, Jenning Leung seemed to make it his personal mission to power Macau to a victory.

After playing a role in the Black Knights’ game-changing second quarter, the sweet-shooting guard took over in the second half, pouring in 14 in the third and 10 more in the fourth to make sure Macau finally got that elusive first win.

So, yes, pride helped. That—and some red-hot shooting by Jenning Leung.
