The San Miguel Beermen have made their move—and it is a big one. Ousted early in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup after a shaky elimination round, the Beermen decided to shake things up early, trading for Jerrick Ahanmisi and Paolo Hernandez in a move that adds both firepower and youth to the league’s winningest franchise.
San Miguel Nabs Jerrick Ahanmisi
The Beermen acquired Jerrick Ahanmisi right on the eve of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals, trading him and Paolo Hernandez to the Terrafirma Dyip in exchange for Juami Tiongson, seldom‑used Chris Miller, and a second‑round pick in Season 52.
Jerrick Ahanmisi, of course, is the crown jewel of this trade. The 28‑year‑old former Adamson Soaring Falcon has been one of the breakout stars of Season 50, showing out for Terrafirma as his minutes—and role—increased after getting traded out of the Magnolia Hotshots. This conference, Ahanmisi played in all of the Dyip’s 12 games and normed per‑game averages of 21.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.5 steals on 35% shooting from deep as the new face of the franchise—a role Tiongson, incidentally, once played.
Tiongson, on the other hand, has struggled mightily since coming over to San Miguel. In fact, in this conference, he averaged only 2.3 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 13.9 minutes.
Beermen Get Another Weapon in Paolo Hernandez
But that’s not all. San Miguel got another potential contributor in Paolo Hernandez, who has emerged as a reliable secondary playmaker for Terrafirma. The 27‑year‑old former Mapua Cardinal, like Ahanmisi, was in the midst of a breakout season, putting up 9.8 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in 25.4 minutes.
Terrafirma, perhaps unsurprisingly, got very little in return, with Miller a virtual nonfactor for San Miguel in two conferences so far. In the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, the 32‑year‑old Fil‑Am normed only 7.7 minutes a game and averaged just 4.3 points and 1.0 rebound.
The trade is official and has been posted on the Transactions page of the official PBA website.
