Team Liquid Philippines ended Week 5 on a high note, delivering a convincing 2‑0 win over Omega Esports in MPL Philippines Season 18.
The Cavalry brushed off an earlier defeat to Aurora Gaming, dominating the rematch against Smart Omega to return to the top of the standings and becoming the first team to secure their spot in the playoffs.
Sanford Leads the Charge
Omega went on the offensive right out of the gate, snatching two early kills and the Turtle past the two‑minute mark in Game 1. But Team Liquid had an immediate answer. Sanford’s Minotaur stepped up big, snagging two quick kills to shut down their momentum. Moments later, Sanford struck again, landing a massive stun on four Omega members, setting up his team to swoop in and complete a clean four‑man wipe. Team Liquid maintained control from there, leading 8‑5 in the kill score while holding a 5000‑gold advantage in the first ten minutes.
Just before the second Lord spawn, Omega found a vital opening, catching Sanford deep in their jungle to claim a huge shutdown. Team Liquid, however, instantly neutralized that play with a pickoff on Louis. What followed was a back‑and‑forth battle around the objective, but TLPH ultimately secured it. The Cavalry then went on the hunt, picking off Omega one by one, completing the full five‑man wipe to seal the game.
Game 2, on the other hand, opened on even footing, but the Cavalry gradually gained the upper hand behind strong performances from Sanji and Sanford. TLPH eventually found its breakthrough during the first Lord fight. Jaypee came through in a big way, landing a perfect four‑man knock‑up, which the Cavalry converted into four big kills.
Team Liquid Powers Through
By the 14‑minute mark, TLPH had taken full control, building a commanding 10‑2 kill score alongside a 10,000‑gold advantage. Still, Omega refused to go down without a fight. During the third Lord contest, the Barangay attempted a flank with Raizen targeting Sanji, but the midlaner was ready for that, escaping to safety. That play was immediately punished by Liquid, taking out Raizen before following it up with another pick on Perkziva. With Omega’s defense crumbling, TLPH closed out the game shortly after to complete the sweep.
It was quite a challenging week for the reigning MPL champions. They were stretched to their limits against TNC, then outplayed by Aurora. But Team Liquid quickly regained their rhythm with a solid win against Omega. Now, Team Liquid will look to carry that momentum forward as they represent the Philippines at the 20th Asian Games.
