With only a week away from the NBA trade deadline, there still seems to be no hint of traction so far. There’s a few reasons for this lack of inactivity.
Unfortunately, the trade deadline on February 5, 2026 could turn out to be ho-hum if nothing huge happens, and there’s a chance it might happen. Front offices aren’t extra active right now, especially with stars like Anthony Davis and Ja Morant out due to injuries.
However, teams should still keep an eye on the market, which as of now appears waiting in earnest for the Milwaukee Bucks to either finally pull the trigger on a possible blockbuster trade for Giannis Antetokounmpo or try to sway the two-time MVP to stay.
Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks Should Make a Move Now
The Bucks aren’t in a good position in the East this season, and that could get worse with Antetokounmpo sidelined due to right calf strain. Milwaukee is currently 11th in the Eastern Conference and is drifting away from possibly landing in the Play-In Tournament.
The franchise has been plagued with bad luck in the past three seasons and hasn’t regained its contender form since winning the 2021 NBA championship. Five years later, fans are already hearing talks of Antetokounmpo leaving Cream City to join another contender, a move that might be beneficial to both parties and a decision which will be wholeheartedly understood by the fans.
Fans and pundits believe the Bucks should make a move as soon as possible. Whether it be before the trade deadline or at the end of the season, Milwaukee must decide whether or not it’s best to finally let their best player walk. Until then, Milwaukee is still holding the league and the teams hostage.
For such a talented player like Giannis Antetokounmpo, every single team in the league would probably go above beyond just to recruit one of the best offensive and defensive players in NBA history.
Which brings us to a player who’s likely getting moved before the deadline…
Jonathan Kuminga Could Be the Only Big Name Moving
At this point, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Golden State Warriors finally agree to Jonathan Kuminga’s demands, especially now that there seems to be a few teams reportedly interested, such as the Miami Heat.
Compared to what happened last year, with Luka Doncic, Jimmy Butler, De’Aaron Fox, and Brandon Ingram headlining the 2025 trade deadline, Kuminga is possibly the only notable name who’ll be moved this year, and that could be a bummer for fans hoping for the usual seismic shifts that often take place just before and right at the trade deadline.
