After defeating Emerson Jones and Tereza Valentova, Alex Eala now looks to continue her run at the WTA 250 Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open as she faces Antonia Ruzic in the quarterfinals.
But just how good is Antonia Ruzic? And can she put an end to Eala’s two-match winning streak?
A Year of Many Firsts for Antonia Ruzic
Croatian tennis player Antonia Ruzic has achieved several career milestones during the 2026 season, particularly by reaching her first-ever WTA 1000 quarterfinals and first semifinal appearance at the WTA 250 Hobart International.
The 23-year-old has also reached the second round of both the French Open (Roland Garros) and Wimbledon, marking her best results at either Grand Slam tournament. To top it all off, she achieved a career-high ranking of world No. 50 back in July.
At the ongoing Hong Kong Tennis Open, the current world No. 81 defeated Alina Charaeva and Xinyu Wang in her first two assignments. Her victory over Wang was particularly impressive, considering that the Chinese player entered the tournament as the sixth seed.
Now facing another seeded opponent in Alex Eala, Ruzic hopes to add another milestone to her growing list of achievements as she aims to defeat the second-seeded Filipina.
Meanwhile, world No. 17 Eala looks to rediscover the form that helped her capture the Mubadala Citi DC Open championship earlier this year.
This also marks the second consecutive quarterfinal appearance for the Rafa Nadal Academy graduate following her campaign at the Toray Pan Pacific Open.
With this quarterfinal clash marking the first-ever meeting between the two players, it will be interesting to see which of them can adjust to the other’s playing style more effectively and quickly as possible.
