After being down by as much as 11 in the final frame, the Cleveland Cavaliers leaned on the heroics of Donovan Mitchell to eke out a slim 119-117 win over the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday.
With less than a second left in a tied ball game, Mitchell went for a successful trip to the line after being fouled on his game-winning shot attempt.
“We just stuck with it… It wasn’t going our way, but we had great spirit,” Cavs head coach Kenny Atkinson said postgame. “Even when we’re down, we were doing the right things… Our endgame execution was pretty much perfect.”
James Harden Remains Undefeated with New Team
Even with 16 NBA seasons under his belt, Harden is still proving to be one of the league’s best in the clutch after drilling his signature step-back three to tie the game at 117.
After being dealt to the Cavs in a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers, The Beard has been looking good with his new team, as he has yet to lose a game wearing the wine-and-gold.
With the win, the Cavs are now roaring with momentum, boasting a four-game winning streak as they near the All-Star break.
Nuggets Still Looking Good
Despite the loss, the Nuggets still remain the third seed in the Western Conference with a 34-20 record.
Nikola Jokic once again dropped a triple-double of 22 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists after recently climbing to second on the all-time triple-doubles list.
The Cavs will look to extend their winning streak when they face the Washington Wizards on Thursday, while the Nuggets will look to return to the win column in a matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies on the same day.
